Ghana Police Prosecute A 35-year-old Father Who Allegedly Raped His 15-year-old Daughter

One Ghanaian man is facing the wrong side of the law for allegedly raping his 15-year-old daughter, and defending sexual acts by saying it’s a “tradition.”

The 35-year-old father who is the biological father of the teenage girl allegedly raped her on three occasions.

Police say he has been brought before the Gender-Based Violence Court for prosecution.

Based on the allegations which are sexually assaulting his underage daughter, police charged him with incest and defilement.

How the accused raped the victim on three different occasions

The teenage girl lives with her father and step-sister in their family home.

Sometime last year, the victim’s stepmother travelled to a funeral leaving the accused and his daughter home alone.

The next day around 5.00 am the accused forced his daughter to remove her clothes using a cane.

According to state prosecutors, the victim out of fear followed the instructions which led his father to rape her.

The man raped her for the de second time around October 20, 2022, when the victim’s stepmother travelled again.

This time around 4.00 am dawn, while the victim was asleep in the room with her younger brother the accused allegedly slept with the girl again.

The following month, in November 2022 de accused travelled with his daughter to the Volta region where he raped his daughter again that night.

According to the state prosecution team, he return home with the victim who wasn’t able to walk properly. When the accused was asked what happened, he said they went through traditional rites where he was asked to have sex with the victim.

Teenager exposed their father to their teacher

The victim January this year exposed the actions of her father to their school teacher.

Police arrested the accused after the teacher supported the girl to file a sexual assault case with the police.

The 35-year-old suspect is denying the charges of incest and defilement after he was prosecuted before the court. The court adjourns the hearing to March 27, 2023, for case management.

The Criminal Offences Act or Penal Codes of 1960, Act 29 in Ghana describes Statutory Rape or Defilement as the natural or unnatural carnal knowledge of a child under 16 years.

Defilement of a child who is 11 years and below will be sentenced to life imprisonment.

And defilement of a child between the ages of 12 to 15 will be sentenced to 20 years imprisonment.

The accused father is at risk of a 20-year jail term if the court finds him guilty of the accusation.
